Eclosion Settings for DTF Printing in Hosonsoft (PrintExp)

Improves gradient smoothness by redistributing ink dots across each print pass.

Eclosion Settings for DTF Printing in Hosonsoft (PrintExp)

Overview
Eclosion in Hosonsoft (PrintExp) is a print setting that controls how ink droplets are distributed during printing. In DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing, eclosion helps reduce visible banding and improves the smoothness of gradients by slightly redistributing ink dots across each print pass.

Proper eclosion settings can improve overall print consistency, color blending, and surface coverage on PET film.

Why Eclosion Is Important for DTF
During DTF printing, the printer applies multiple passes of CMYK and white ink onto PET film. Without proper droplet distribution, prints may show:

  • Horizontal banding
  • Uneven color blending
  • Visible print pass lines

Eclosion helps distribute droplets more evenly, reducing these issues and producing smoother prints.

Available Eclosion Modes

Normal
Normal mode prints ink droplets exactly as processed by the RIP software without additional diffusion.

Best for:

  • Text and fine details
  • Thin lines
  • Small graphics

Advantages

  • Maximum sharpness
  • Clean edges

Consideration

  • Banding may appear in large solid color areas.

Fog
Fog mode lightly diffuses ink droplets across the print pass to create smoother transitions.

Best for:

  • Photographic images
  • Gradients
  • Large color areas

Advantages

  • Reduces light banding
  • Improves color blending

Note
Fog is commonly used in DTF production because it balances smoothness and detail.

Strong A
Strong A applies a stronger droplet diffusion pattern than Fog.

Best for:

  • Moderate banding issues
  • Large solid color areas
  • Prints with visible pass lines

This mode redistributes droplets more aggressively to hide uneven print passes.

Strong B
Strong B is another strong diffusion pattern that uses a different droplet distribution algorithm than Strong A.

Best for:

  • Persistent banding
  • Materials where Strong A does not resolve print lines

Testing both Strong A and Strong B can help determine which works best for a specific printer or media type.

Recommended Eclosion Settings for DTF

Print Type Recommended Setting
Text and line graphics Normal
Standard garment prints Fog
Gradients or photos Fog
Moderate banding Strong A
Severe banding Strong B

Best Practices

  • Use Fog mode for most DTF prints to achieve smoother gradients and color blending.
  • Switch to Normal mode when printing small text or detailed line work.
  • If banding appears, test Strong A or Strong B.
  • Always run a small test print before large production runs.

Additional Notes
Eclosion works together with other print parameters, including:

  • Print mode (pass count)
  • Ink density
  • Print speed
  • Step calibration
  • Bidirectional alignment

For best results, adjust eclosion settings alongside these parameters when troubleshooting print quality issues in DTF printing.
